Watering
Make sure you water your turf as soon as you finish laying it. It will need a really good soaking until the turf is well rooted, paying particular care to the edges which will dry out first.

Mowing & Feeding
Once the turf has rooted you can mow your lawn. (You can check it has rooted by gently lifting up the corner of a roll. If it resists then it has rooted.) Use the highest settings on your mower to make sure you do not scalp the lawn to begin with. Until your lawn is fully established you should mow frequently but only remove a small amount of grass each time. Once your lawn is established you can start a pattern of feeding, weeding and top dressing at the appropriate times of the year.

How do I lay my Lawn?
Every day we are asked how to lay a lawn. Here is how to lay and care for your lawn supplied by Waycott’s Quality Turf.

Ground Preparation
As with most jobs around the house and garden, preparation is the key to success.
1. Remove any existing turf and weeds using a spade and chipping action.
2. Dig or rotavate the ground to a depth of about 6 inches. The area should be relatively free from stone or weed.
3. For best results on poor ground apply a fertiliser (ideally of a root promoting variety) at this time.
4. Using a rake, the area now needs to be levelled off. Once relatively smooth, firm the area, either by foot, shuffling across the lawn, or using a garden roller if available. Finally use a wide rake to ensure a smooth and even finish. You are now ready to lay your turves!
5. Calculate how much turf you will need by measuring your lawn area carefully. Our turf is supplied in handy to use rolls each 1 metre in area and comes in three grades: budget-lawn, super-lawn and show-lawn. We will help you convert your measurements when you place your order. Our turf is freshly cut each day so we will need at least 24 hours notice of your requirements.
6. For the best results lay the turf within 2-3 days of delivery. If this is not possible unroll the turves and lay them right side up out of direct sunlight and water well.

Laying Your Lawn
7. Start by marking out your lawn, laying a strip of turf around the edge of the area to be turfed. Use whole rolls, as small pieces will dry out if used close to the edges.
8. Place a board on top of the turf along the longest edge of your new lawn. Walk on this plank to lay the next row. This firms the turf down gently, ensuring an even contact with the soil and prevents you from walking on the newly laid turf. Continue laying turf ensuring you stagger any joints, to eliminate unsightly lines in your finished lawn. Push the joints together well, trying not to stretch the turf as you do this. Use edging shears or a sharp knife to cut the turves where necessary. Fill any gaps with pieces cut from unused rolls.
